Successful Appeal

Sports Planning Consultants (SPC) support a successful Appeal by Homes England for land at Harras Moor in Whitehaven.

The proposal led to the loss of a disused football pitch, contrary to Policies SS4 and DM21 of the Local Plan and Policy SC3PU of the emerging plan. SPC developed a sports mitigation strategy in partnership with the Council and governing bodies of sport, which identified alternatives to replacing the on-site football pitch.

The strategy was supported by Sport England and a contribution of £100,000 was agreed to support the development of a hockey pitch on Whitehaven Academy, in lieu of replacing the disused pitch.

At Sports Planning Consultants (SPC) we’re celebrating our first birthday and reflecting on some great achievements over our first 12 months.

Members of Sport England’s Active Environments Framework, we’ve advised on a diverse range of planning applications, helping to shape planning strategies, with successes on behalf of both our private and public sector clients. We’ve helped to define sports infra-structure needs on master plan developments across the country from Handforth to Brookfield Garden Village and develivered numerous Playing Pitch Strategies on behalf of local authorities, including the first strategy for the new unitary authority of Westmorland and Furness.

More Project Success

SPC supported Asteer Planning and Anwyl Homes’ plans for 65 houses off Wilbraham Road in Chorlton. Working with Greater Manchester Youth Federation, which owns the site, SPC helped to develop the mitigation strategy for the loss of the former playing field site. The mitigation package will seeinvestment in local sport, alongside off-site investment at the nearby Alexander Park. The investment will deliver the city council’s playing pitch strategy priorities and help to deliver the mcractive strategy.
