Using NPPF Paragraph 104 to deliver investment into sport

More planning success as two schemes in Manchester were given the recent go ahead, delivering investment into local community sport on the back of much needed development.

Using the NPPF Paragraph 104 framework, and following a robust needs assessment, Sports Planning Consultants (SPC) were able to make the case that Longsight Bowls Club was surplus to requirements and no longer required.

Working closely with Manchester Active this position was agreed and the developer Views undertook to invest in the local bowls infrastructure by way of mitigation, paving the way for development on the former bowls club site.

Burnage Cricket Club site has also been approved, for a development of 66 properties by Views.

The former cricket club site was no longer fit for purpose and had fallen into disrepair. However given the lack of cricket provision in South Manchester it was agreed that replacement provision would be required.

Working closely with Manchester Active and the Lancashire Cricket Board, SPC helped to develop a solution which will see a replacement facility developed on Cringle Fields as part of a multi-sport offer, providing vital new cricket provision in the area.
